We like to think of ourselves as being a one stop shop for getting a new product idea developed and into production. We tailor every solution to the individual client so if you just require concept development or full product design why not get in touch.
Research The knowledge and input of our clients is integral to our design process. Every project we undertake draws upon the experience and expertise of our clients to ensure we have a depth and breadth of understanding from the start; a platform from which our innovative thinking can evolve. Information is gathered through brainstorming, focus groups, market research, evaluation, creative concepts and experimentation to provide us with insight into the product and market area and the needs of the consumer.
Concept Development
Innovation and fresh thinking is paramount at every stage of the product design cycle. Backed up by our research, our preliminary design concepts are as diverse as possible. Whilst we do find thinking laterally and out of the box often results in the best ideas, we do ensure that all our concepts can be translated into brief fulfilling, viable solutions. Concepts are generated via brainstorming, sketches, basic CAD modelling, sketch models and test rigs amongst other processes.
Ergonomic & aesthetic styling
Ergonomics is the study and application of information about humans that informs and aids the design of products. It involves studying how best people interact with the products we are designing so we can ensure the products fit the user, not have the user adjust to fit the product, often improving safety, efficiency and comfort.
Aesthetics are all about the way the product looks and are largely responsible for how a new product captures the market. Ultimately, it is often the way a product looks that determines its market success, regardless of its functional advantages. We style our products through sketching, 3D modelling, prototyping and computer surface modelling, continually refining the products aesthetic to appeal to the target market without sacrificing its function.
Computer aided design and engineering
Our engineers are involved throughout the design process ensuring our design concepts are plausible, in both their function and manufacture. Their breadth and depth of knowledge ensures we can push boundaries in both design and manufacturing techniques.
We use both physical and virtual models to test functional concepts and design solutions, allowing us to continually evaluate and refine an idea. Our Computer Aided Design skills allow us to further these tests by creating highly accurate model and assembly parts of a product. We can perform a vast range of tests on these virtual models including stress analysis and material suitability tests, which coupled with our experience, allow us to make informed decisions on how to push the product forward.
Prototyping & manufacture
Creating prototypes, sketch models and mock-ups of products or product components is integral part of the product design process, allowing us, our clients and target consumers the opportunity to hold, touch and interact with a concept design. Conka uses the latest technology, including rapid prototyping facilities, capable of creating products that look, react and function like a post production product in as little as a day.
